Three Americans at Verdun: Keeping the Memory of WWI Alive with Mémorial de Verdun
In the American memory of WWI, the decisive moment is April 1917, marking the date the United States officially entered the war. But the story
THE SORORITY FOUNDATION is dedicated to advancing safety, dignity, and support for those facing harassment, cyberharassment, domestic violence, gender-based violence, discrimination, or social isolation. At the heart of its mission is THE SORORITY, the first international, secure mutual-aid mobile application designed to offer real-time support to people experiencing threats or violence. With more than 400,000 verified users and over 1 million downloads since 2020, the platform brings together an unprecedented global community committed to preventing violence and protecting vulnerable individuals.
A global, accessible lifeline: THE SORORITY app is free, available worldwide in 18 languages, and built to ensure that help is never out of reach. Whether someone is in danger at home, on public transportation, at work, or while traveling, they can instantly request assistance through the app. Within one minute of sending an alert, an average of ten community members respond by phone or chat, creating an immediate human safety network when it matters most.
See how the app works in this short video.
A proven impact on feelings of safety: According to research conducted in partnership with Koreis, 94% of users report feeling safer in public spaces thanks to the app. The platform also includes a growing network of more than 24,000 certified “safe places”—businesses, pharmacies, community centers, and NGOs that offer immediate refuge, allowing individuals to remove themselves from danger and contact authorities, family, or support services.
Innovation at the service of safety: Founded by Priscillia Routier-Trillard, THE SORORITY app addresses two well-documented psychological barriers in unsafe situations: the freeze response experienced by victims and the bystander effect experienced by witnesses. The app’s model counteracts both by triggering immediate collective mobilization, disrupting an aggressor’s actions, and empowering witnesses to intervene safely and effectively. The platform uses technology as a tool to rebuild human connection, solidarity, and rapid, coordinated responses.
With its combination of tech-enabled safety tools, peer support, and international reach, THE SORORITY FOUNDATION envisions a world where no one facing violence feels isolated or powerless—and where communities can respond together, everywhere and at any moment.
THE SORORITY FOUNDATION provides safety tools and community-based support to individuals affected by all forms of public and domestic harassment, danger, or threats. Its work strengthens early-intervention pathways, expands access to safe spaces worldwide, and empowers those at risk through community care and rapid-response mechanisms.
