After a hiatus of twenty years, the Orchestre de Paris is making a comeback to stages in the United States, led by their esteemed musical director Klaus Mäkelä, a true star in the symphonic world. Four extraordinary concerts in the Northeast will spotlight French culture and emphasize the musical artistry of the Philharmonie de Paris on a global stage.

Together Through Music

The Philharmonie de Paris has forged strong connections with leading symphony orchestras in the United States, partnering with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the MET Orchestra during the 2022-2023 season. In the upcoming season, five leading American orchestras will be welcomed in Paris. Partnerships established with acclaimed American musicians and conductors continue to create flourishing creative collaborations supported by American and French audiences. The Orchestre de Paris returns to American stages every two decades, last performing in New York’s Carnegie Hall in 2006 under director Christoph Eschenbach.

At 27, Klaus Mäkelä already has an incredible resume. His roles include Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and he will soon become Chief Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. In the 2023 season, the Finnish conductor and cellist made conducting debuts with the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the United States, as well as the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Gewandhausorchester of Leipzig in Germany and the Wiener Symphoniker in Austria. As the director of the Orchestre de Paris, he will lead international tours throughout the 2024 season.

US Tour

The US tour, which begins March 14, includes performances at the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan, followed by a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, and concluding at Symphony Hall, Boston. Among the pieces played will be Igor Stravinski’s The Firebird and The Rite of Spring, with performances of Sergueï Rachmaninov’s Concerto for piano n°2 do minor, op.18 in Ann Arbor and Boston. This thrilling tour promises to be an unforgettable celebration of French musical mastery and the directorial genius of Mäkelä.
