Mission & Vision
The Cité Internationale du Cinéma d’Animation is the embodiment of Annecy International Festival’s decades-long history, blending heritage and innovation in the heart of an urban living space in a city known as the world capital of animation film. It intends to widen the ambitious, worldwide renowned and varied festival cultural offer throughout the year, develop encounters between artists and audiences and be a space for animation creation and experimentation for all audiences.
Located in Le Haras, a rehabilitated historic landmark built in the 1880s—the very era when Marey and Muybridge pioneered motion studies in 1887 that paved the way for cinema—the Cité Internationale du Cinéma d’Animation is an urban oasis and an emblematic site in the heart of the city of Annecy. The Cité brings animation to life through the Museum of Animation, the annual Grande Exposition exhibition, a wide range of film education workshops, the 332-seat Cinema de la Cité screening room, and a dedicated artist’s residency program.
This cultural project offers unique facilities for discovery, encounters, and exchange for all publics. Beyond its infrastructures, the Cité will develop a high-quality cultural and artistic program throughout the year together with major studios, directors and key industry professionals.
The Cité Internationale du Cinéma d’Animation also strives to be a place for exploration and rejuvenation, creating moments of enjoyment outside of time in a cultural and culinary environment equipped with a food court, a café, a cultural bookshop, and a sprawling 6-acre park. This unique, elegant site is brought to life by the work the Devaux & Devaux Architectes firm, who were awarded the prestigious Équerre d’Argent for their Téléphérique du Salève project.
