Children with heart defects, sometimes referred to as “blue babies,” can be cured through open-heart surgery. This is the case in developed countries. However, no hospital in Vietnam had the necessary facilities to perform heart surgery.
After facing numerous dramatic situations, Prof. Carpentier proposed the creation of the Heart Institute (Institut du Coeur), dedicated to the children of Vietnam. Fondation Alain Carpentier was called upon, and funds were raised in France for the construction of the institute.
Leading international researcher and scientist in cardiology and cardiac surgery, Professor Alain Carpentier led multiple scientific discoveries, such as bioprosthetic, a chemical process that allows animal tissue to be implanted in humans without immunological rejection. He is also responsible for the development of reconstructive heart valve surgery and techniques for repairing complex heart defects. More recently, he developed the Carmat artificial heart.
Fondation Alain Carpentier is aligned with the professor’s values that no child should lack access to life-saving surgery because of financial difficulties. Since its creation, the foundation has helped promote, help and reward scientific and humanitarian efforts designed to preserve and improve the physical, moral, and spiritual conditions of people.
Fondation Alain Carpentier has contributed to operating and saving the lives of more than 1,200 children per year in Ho Chi Minh City, through funding the Heart Institute, which offers quality healthcare to all patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases – often children – regardless of their origin.
Fondation Alain Carpentier finances the equipment and training of the medical, administrative, and technical staff, alongside the help of the surgical team of the Broussais Hospital.
In France, the foundation also funds research in cardiovascular illnesses, cancer, and neuroscience, like in the Biosurgery Research Laboratory, for example, which publishes studies.
By donating to Fondation Alain Carpentier, you can help advance cardiovascular research and contribute to saving more lives through the Heart Center!
