CAF World Giving Insights: French & American giving last year—and going further together in 2026
As the year draws to a close, we take a closer look at how French and American generosity has evolved last year. In partnership with
École du Louvre is one of the world’s most prestigious art history schools. Founded in 1882 and housed within the Louvre Palace in Paris, the School offers a rigorous, specialized education in art history, archaeology, anthropology, and museum studies. With nearly 1,800 students enrolled in undergraduate to doctoral programs, alumni go on to become curators, researchers, and cultural leaders in major museums and institutions across France and internationally.
The École du Louvre Endowment Fund’s mission is to ensure that every student, regardless of financial background, can access and thrive in this world-class academic setting. Today, one in three students faces financial hardship—a growing challenge given the rising cost of living in France. Even after passing a highly competitive entrance exam, many struggle with basic needs like housing and food.
To address these inequalities, the École du Louvre has led a long-standing commitment to equal opportunity. Since 2006, it has partnered with the Fondation Culture & Diversité to support students from underprivileged backgrounds. Today, nearly 30% of students receive scholarships—up from just 10% in 2000—including 38% of first-year students.
Still, the need outpaces available funding. In June 2024 alone, 144 students applied for living support—but only 29 grants could be awarded.
To expand its reach, the École du Louvre is activating its Endowment Fund to provide lasting and dignified support. Managed by a Board of Directors and advised by a volunteer Investment Committee, the fund will offer sustainable assistance to students while upholding the School’s mission: to shape the next generation of curators, conservators, researchers, and cultural leaders in the heart of Paris.
The École du Louvre Endowment Fund ensures that talented students are not excluded from educational opportunity due to hardship. Through housing support, emergency aid, and long-term grants, the fund helps students remain focused on their studies and unlock their full potential.
Key initiatives include:
U.S. donors can make tax-deductible donations to support École du Louvre students, helping the school fulfill its public interest mission and develop social and cultural vibrancy on campus. Donations help to finance emergency grants and accommodations for students facing financial distress or precarious situations. These grants are awarded based on social criteria, taking into account the specific situation of each student applicant.
