Founded in 2025, Les Amis d’Ithaque supports the mission of the Ithaque Gallery, located in the heart of Paris’ Marais district, to make analog photography accessible and inspiring for all. The charity is dedicated to fostering creativity and artistic curiosity among young people in Paris and its suburbs by introducing them to black-and-white photography and traditional darkroom techniques.
Through educational workshops, artist residencies, and community exhibitions, Les Amis d’Ithaque promotes hands-on learning, cultural engagement, and the preservation of photographic arts. The organization also hopes to develop programs inviting international, including American, photographers to Paris for artist residencies, enriching the gallery’s creative community and fostering cross-cultural exchange.
Les Amis d’Ithaque organizes hands-on photography programs for children in local schools and social centers. Participants learn analog photography techniques, explore darkroom printmaking, and exhibit their work in their communities.
The charity also supports artist residencies at the Ithaque Gallery, providing professional photographers with the materials and space to develop and print their work using traditional methods.
By combining youth education and professional artistic practice, Les Amis d’Ithaque preserves the tradition of analog photography while cultivating a new generation of creative thinkers.
U.S-based donors can support the team of the charity “Les Amis d’Ithaque” through tax-deductible donations, which allow the organization to visit several schools and local social centers in the Paris suburbs and teach kids how to take analog photographs in black and white.
The kids will then visit the darkroom of Ithaque in the heart of the Marais in Paris to discover the traditional printmaking techniques and select their favorite photos, and as a last step, an exhibition of the photos of the children will be organized in the school or social center.
In parallel, the charity will expense the donations to buy photopaper and chemicals to support the darkroom artist residencies where artists are invited to print their analog photographs.
The charity “Les Amis d’Ithaque” has been recognized by the French authorities as acting in the general interest.
