In 2023, 70% of the 260,000 deaths due to pregnancy and childbirth occurred in Sub-Saharan Africa. While these deaths could have been avoided with the proper medical care, many women in remote areas lack access to such vital services.
Fondation pour une Maternité Sans Risque was created to ensure that pregnant women in Senegal receive access to life-saving medical care locally, rather than needing to go through hours-long journeys to medical facilities.
Our partnership with Fondation pour une Maternité Sans Risque goes beyond bridging American generosity with impactful projects. We are proud to contribute to international development and support women who lack the resources to give birth safely.
As the project grows, we celebrate our partnership with Fondation pour une Maternité Sans Risque, which continues to expand support to more women, children, and villages.
For the past 25 years, we have also been proud to create new relationships and bridge the relationship between donors and projects. One such donor is the Geneviève McMillan-Reba Stewart Foundation, based in Connecticut, which has supported Fondation pour une Maternité Sans Risque for the past ten years. As co-founder Dr. Patrick Dewarvin explains it, this collaboration has allowed pregnant women and infants living in isolated villages to receive adequate medical care, leading to a 50% drop in infant mortality.
At Friends of Fondation de France, French-American philanthropy is a powerful force for advancing the shared values of both nations. By cultivating strong relationships with our nonprofit partners and dedicated donors, we have—and will continue to—create meaningful, lasting impact around the world.
