Two earthquakes of unprecedented magnitude hit Southern Turkey and Northern Syria, on February 6, 2023, causing devastating loss of life and severe widespread damage to infrastructure.
To respond to the impacts of this disaster, Fondation de France directly supports local Turkish and Syrian nonprofit organizations that have long been strong partners in the region. Thanks to donor support, over €9 million has been allocated to provide assistance to 88 initiatives supporting all needs of those impacted, supplying basic necessities, access to education, and psychological support, as well as facilitating economic recovery.
Relying on its experience in the region and on its local partners, Fondation de France support projects in two main fields:
• immediate emergency relief to help the victims,
• long-term recovery aid in a second phase (such as livelihood and psychological support and collective building rehabilitation).
Friends of Fondation de France donors can help the populations affected by the earthquakes by supporting immediate needs, as well as long term recovery.
