The Musée du Grand Siècle is a major cultural project currently under development in Saint-Cloud, just outside Paris. Conceived to fill a gap in France’s museum landscape, it will present a comprehensive panorama of French civilization from the reign of Henri IV to the Regency (1590–1725)—a period known as the Grand Siècle, or Great Century. Unlike traditional museums that separate fine arts from decorative arts and material culture, the Musée du Grand Siècle will unite paintings, drawings, sculpture, furniture, books, medals, and objets d’art to illuminate the full richness of this defining era in French history.
Founded in 2022, the Société des Amis du Musée du Grand Siècle supports this unique endeavor. Its mission is to enrich the museum’s collections through acquisitions, raise awareness through cultural programming, and promote the legacy of the Grand Siècle to audiences in France and abroad.
As the Musée du Grand Siècle takes shape in order to open in 2027, the Société des Amis du Musée du Grand Siècle plays a vital role in preparing its future collections and ensuring its cultural reach. The association leads several initiatives that directly advance the museum’s creation:
