LOBA

Mission & Vision

LOBA is a French nonprofit association founded in 2008. LOBA’s goal is to use art for the city. It addresses societal issues and explores crucial issues like racism, religion, sexism, migration, and inequality, by developing programs that help sexual abuse survivors process traumas and get their empowerment back. Workshops and art help women take back control over their bodies. In 2017, LOBA launched an innovative therapy that combines dance and psychotherapy: “RECREATION THERAPY by LOBA” has been elaborated on for women who suffered sexual abuse. Just as what has been successfully accomplished in 7 structures in both Paris and its suburbs, LOBA aims to reproduce this brand-new method by creating partnerships with the US.

Actions Led

LOBA’s purpose is to use dance to empower women. “RECREATION THERAPY” consists of a therapeutic biome of one dancer and one psychologist. In “Dual” sessions, this therapeutic dance alternates between a dialogue between a psychologist and a dancer.

LOBA is hoping to widely expand the reach of “RECREATION THERAPY”. Backed with a Ph.D. in Psychology, they aim at demonstrating the efficiency of this therapeutic approach for women who have experienced sexual violence (cf. scientific article: “Impact of dance therapy on adults with psychological trauma: a systematic review”, in the European Journal of Psychotraumatology). We, therefore, highlight how important it is to forge new partnerships and train new pairs to disseminate this impactful method worldwide.

Besides these workshops, LOBA is committed to addressing misogyny. An artistic show-debate titled LArmes gives victims a voice and educates the audience on the consequences of misogyny. Re-Création by LOBA also explores the question: “What is it to be a man in the 21st century,” through conferences, consultation workshops, and production workshops.

Projects that US Donors Can Support

Re-Creation by LOBA focuses on gender-related issues and engages in two main undertakings :

  • It organizes workshops on dance as therapy led jointly by a dancer and a psychologist. These workshops aim to help women, often survivors of sexual abuse or other forms of trauma, regain a sense of control and ownership over their bodies and life stories.
  • In a systemic approach, Re-Creation by LOBA also wants to take action to prevent pervasive misogyny – an ill background that causes suffering amongst women – for a deep societal change. To do so, the association has started 3 key projects: “ReCreation Highschool Project” for students, ”LArmes”, an artistic debate show, and masculinity/vulnerability workshops.
