Created as a scientific cooperation foundation, Institut Imagine conducts research in genetic diseases. It brings patients, physicians and researchers together in one single place – on the Hôpital Necker-Enfants malades campus – to accelerate diagnostic and therapeutic solutions brought to children affected with genetic diseases and their families, and to train researchers and physicians-researchers in this field.
At Institut Imagine, Jean-Laurent Casanova and Laurent Abel’s laboratory, located both at Institut Imagine in Paris and Rockefeller University in New York, aims to understand why some children and adults develop a life-threatening or lethal illness in the course of primary infection, while most people exposed to the same microbe remain unharmed. Since the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, Casanova has been sequencing the genomes of previously healthy children and adults with life-threatening COVID-19, searching for genetic variants that may explain their insufficient immunity to SARS-CoV-2.
With their donations, U.S donors can support the “Understanding the life-threatening manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection” research program.
