Fondation pour le rayonnement de l’art haïtien acts to spread the influence of Haitian art by supporting contemporary creation and contributing to the rebuilding and development of the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The art center, the main hub of exchange on Haitian cultural life since its establishment in 1944, was destroyed by the earthquake of January 2010. The foundation was thus established to revive this cultural heritage and foster the Haitian artistic creation it embodied, and support its essential role in showcasing Haitian art, culture, and society.
Although the original building was not reconstructed, thousands of artworks, including paintings and sculptures, were preserved, allowing the Art Center to resume some of its activities in 2014, such as exhibitions and workshops. Over the years, the Center has played a key role in bringing to light prominent artists like Hector Hyppolite and Edouard Duval-Carrié, helping to extend their influence on an international scale. Despite no longer being housed in its historic premises, it remains a vital cultural hub for artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts, who continue to engage with the Center as a space for learning, creation, and exhibitions.
Since 2014, the Fondation pour le rayonnement de l’art haïtien has supported the Art Center’s revival by funding the broader renewal of Haitian art and actively promoting contemporary Haitian painting.
By donating to Fondation pour le rayonnement de l’art haïtien, you can help cover the operations of the Centre d’Art by financing exhibitions, workshops, conferences, cultural and community events, and the reconstruction of a new, safer building, as the current one is highly vulnerable to the elements.
