Fondation Paul et Hélène Jourde, named after its founders, manages Branféré, a zoological and botanical park located in Brittany, France. The foundation also works to develop the park’s activities and workshops on the environment and the animal world, focusing on four fundamental functions to fulfill: education, creation, conservation, and research.
Branféré Park is home to more than 1,500 animals, spread across 45 hectares of botanical landscape. Today, biodiversity preservation is one of the core missions of zoological parks. Thanks to their efforts, the extinction risk for over 400 animal species has been reduced. Branféré currently houses over 50 species within the EEP (European Ex-situ Programme), including Indian rhinoceroses, Humboldt penguins, giraffes, red ruffed lemurs, Japanese cranes, and cotton-top tamarins.
In line with its commitment to animal and biodiversity conservation, the park also dedicates space to ethology and the study of animal behavior in semi-free environments. These studies aim to advance scientific understanding of animals, their habitats, and their living patterns.
Branféré also organizes workshops and activities to raise awareness among children about environmental challenges through its Nature School (École de la Nature). The school offers a diverse range of educational programs designed for children, the general public, and professionals. These workshops aim to foster awareness about the importance of nature conservation and to promote simple, everyday habits for more eco-friendly living.
Finally, the Branféré Park remains a leisure park where visitors can discover animals from all over the world, and attend bird shows and other fun activities.
