Mission & Vision

Fondation des Parcs et Jardins de France (FPJF) aims to preserve, restore, and develop the parks and gardens of France that are open to the public, and to promote them both nationally and internationally.

Created in 2008 by Didier Wirth and the French Committee of Parks and Gardens, the foundation has been operating under the aegis of Fondation de France since 2019. Since then, it has actively worked to promote the art of gardening and to safeguard France’s rich botanical heritage, ensuring that these cultural and natural treasures continue to inspire and educate future generations.

Actions Led

Through various fields of action, Fondation des Parcs et Jardins de France (FPJF) actively advances its mission of promoting and preserving the art of gardening in France. The FPJF notably:

• Disseminates knowledge through multiple initiatives: publishing books, organizing symposiums, and producing films and documentaries—all aimed at preserving garden culture and promoting sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel-based activities.
• Supports the social, educational, and therapeutic role of gardens, recognizing their impact on well-being and community life.
• Awards the “Michel Baridon” Prize, a scholarship given to students conducting research for their master’s or doctoral theses, in tribute to Michel Baridon (1926–2009), a renowned garden and landscape historian.
• Supports the European Institute of Gardens and Landscapes, which compiles and maintains a comprehensive database of public and private garden inventories across Europe.
