Mission & Vision

The Établissement public du Mont Saint-Michel is responsible for the preservation, management, and enhancement of one of France’s most iconic heritage sites. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mont Saint-Michel welcomes millions of visitors each year who come to admire its historic abbey, unique tidal landscape, and cultural significance. The institution is dedicated to protecting the site’s natural and architectural treasures while ensuring that future generations can continue to experience its beauty and history.

Actions Led

To safeguard Mont Saint-Michel’s heritage and improve the visitor experience, the organization undertakes a wide range of initiatives, including conservation and restoration, cultural programming, visitor services, and environmental stewardship.

Near the visitor center, Mont Saint-Michel maintains a conservatory orchard composed of traditional and historic apple varieties. This living heritage contributes to the site’s ecological diversity and embodies Normandy’s deep-rooted apple culture.

Over time, several trees have been damaged by climate and disease, making restoration essential. The project involves planting new apple trees to preserve this heritage and sustain the orchard for the future.

Projects That U.S. Donors Can Support

U.S. donors can support this effort by “adopting” an apple tree by making a tax-deductible donation to the Établissement public du Mont Saint-Michel. These gifts can support conservation of the orchard and planting new trees.
