Mission & Vision
The English-language Library in Angers traces its origins to the American Library in Paris, founded after the First World War to foster cross-cultural understanding through literature. Inspired by this legacy, the American Library in Angers was established in 1993 in the heart of the Loire Valley. From its inception, it served as a welcoming center for English-language literary and cultural programming in western France. In 2002, the library adopted its current name to reflect the increasing diversity of its membership and its broader cultural mission.
Today, the English-language Library in Angers serves over 2,000 active members representing 76 nationalities. It has grown into a vibrant cultural hub—offering access to a curated collection of English-language resources, dynamic programs for all ages, and an inviting space for community, creativity, and conversation. The library is more than a place to borrow books; it is a center for lifelong learning, intercultural dialogue, and social connection.
Through the power of the English language, the library builds bridges across cultures and generations—fostering global understanding, personal growth, and a sense of belonging.
