improving outcomes for disadvantaged students by empowering educators and principals through digital platforms and school-based support
Cause(s): Education

Mission & Vision

In France, a child from a disadvantaged background is four times less likely to succeed in school. Yet research shows that teachers account for 30% of a student’s academic success — and school principals for another 10%. Investing in educators is one of the most powerful levers for reducing educational inequality.

Founded in 2012, Ecolhuma supports teachers and school leadership teams in transforming education from within. Through peer-based professional development, research-backed tools, and on-the-ground accompaniment, Ecolhuma helps educators and administrators evolve their approaches in ways that give every student, regardless of background, an equal chance to learn and thrive.

Actions Led

Ecolhuma works through three complementary programs:

EtrePROF.fr is a digital peer-to-peer professional development platform for teachers, and ManagEduc.fr is its equivalent for school principals. Together, these platforms support educators in developing their practices through community, research, and shared resources.

Ecolhuma also accompanies schools directly through a multi-year in-person program designed to help entire teams unlock the potential of their pupils, as well as educational initiatives that help students stay engaged and learn more effectively.

Since 2012, Ecolhuma’s programs have reached 200,000 teachers, 3,800 school principals, and an estimated 2.8 million students across France, making it one of the leading resources for educator support in the country, and contributing directly to eliminating educational inequalities.

Projects that U.S. Donors Can Support

With Friends of Fondation de France, U.S. donors can make tax-deductible gifts in support of Ecolhuma to help advance their mission through their strategic objectives:
  1. Reach 1/4 of teachers and 1/3 of principals in France through our digital, peer-to-peer professional development platforms EtrePROF.fr and ManagEduc.fr
  2. Accompany 100 schools in-person through our new, innovative multi-year accompaniment program to help their teams unlock the potential of their pupils
  3. Drive a shift in public policy whereby teachers benefit from 100 hours/ year of continuous professional development (in line with the OECD’s best-performing countries like Singapore)
  4. Double the organization’s R&D efforts to improve our efficacy and efficiency
