Association des Climats de Bourgogne – Patrimoine Mondial de l’UNESCO

Preserving the exceptional heritage of the historic vineyards in Burgundy and winemaking model.

Mission & Vision

The Association des Climats de Bourgogne has a mission to protect, preserve, and pass on the unique cultural landscape of the Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne – its history, vineyard, heritage, tangible and intangible assets, and values- inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2015.

The Climats du Vignoble de Bourgogne are both the source and the foundation of our Burgundian winemaking model. On July 4, 2015, UNESCO recognized this model of terroir-based viticulture as a World Heritage Site.

This recognition honors the historic vineyards, two thousand years of winemaking savoir-faire, heritage, traditions, and exceptional landscape: a treasure for humanity and a living legacy, to be protected and passed on to future generations.

Preserving this heritage, bringing it into dialogue with the future challenges, and sharing its transmission, are more than ever at the heart of our mission.

Projects that U.S. Donors Can Support

Donors can participare in funding programs for the preservation and maintenance of these exceptional vineyards:

• The Heritage Fund: supporting the restoration of 220 km of stone walls, vineyard gates, and iconic buildings.

• Registry of Cellars: a research program to reveal the historical treasures and architecture of the cellars in Beaune and Nuits-Saint-Georges.

• Revealing the history of each village through 40 monographs resulting from research work.

• Annual educational programming introducing, from an early age, the values of UNESCO World Heritage and those of the Climats.
