Since its creation in 1984, Fondation Cartier has been dedicated to promoting and raising public awareness of contemporary art. It aims to showcase the work of renowned French and international artists and provide visibility to emerging young talents. The foundation is committed to exploring all disciplines of art creation, ranging from visual arts, science, architecture, design, fashion, and film.
Each year, Fondation Cartier programs thematic and solo exhibitions to showcase their significant collection, which comprises nearly 4,000 works from over 500 artists from all over the world. They also partner with international foundations and museums to create new exhibitions abroad and spread the reach of new artists. They also sponsor artists through commissions–whether for a single piece, a series, or an entire exhibition–providing them with the space and support to express their vision and push the limits of their creativity.
They also recently announced their relocation to a historic building on Place du Palais-Royal, opposite the Louvre. The space will be redesigned by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel to foster and celebrate artistic creation, notably through expansive gallery areas featuring flexible halls and mobile platforms.
