Mission & Vision
Fondation Giacometti is dedicated to preserving, disseminating, and promoting the work of renowned sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti. To promote the artist’s life and work, the Institut Giacometti was created near Montparnasse in Paris, where Giacometti lived and worked, and developed his distinctive style throughout his career. The Fondation currently holds the largest collection of Giacometti artworks in the world, with more than 320 sculptures, 70 paintings, and 130 other artworks.
Actions Led
Aligned with its efforts to spread the work of Giacometti, the Fondation has worked to recreate the artist’s studio in the Institut Giacometti in Paris, thanks to the work of his wife, who saved his sculptures, paintings, furniture, and personal items. The artist’s work environment was reconstructed to remain true to its original location, through intensive work on conservation, allowing for the presentation of original works. Additionally, the Fondation regularly organizes temporary exhibitions that highlight specific periods of the artist’s career as well as the work of more recent artists, offering a new perspective on modern and contemporary art. It also collaborates with international museums to showcase Giacometti’s work all over the world. Ultimately, through conferences, seminars, and research programs such as “L’École des Modernités”, the Fondation seeks to support and promote the work of art historians aiming to publish their research.
